Other award-winning projects include
the
TTC Subway, which is the largest concrete cutting job
commissioned in Canada.
|
It involved the removal of 5.7 million pounds of
concrete over a 40-week period. All this had to be done
while keeping the subway in operation, and during the
construction of a 17-storey office building overhead.
The project entailed the cutting and removal of the wall,
roof and central spline - which contained a steel I-beam.
In addition, 10 large caisson openings for the new
building had to be cut into the 7-foot-thick concrete
floor. Many safety measures were put in place to make
sure cut sections did not fall into the tracks or walkways.
This demanding, complex project, showcased the many
advantages of diamond sawing: speed, versatility,
debris-free, low noise level, and the ability to handle very
thick and/or reinforced concrete.
